<p>В статье впервые в отечественном религиоведении рассматривается венесуэльский синкретический культ Марии Лионсы. Автором раскрываются различные версии происхождения культа и причины его возникновения. Отдельное внимание уделяется католической составляющей образа богини Марии Лионсы, впитавшего в себя народные представления о Деве Марии. </p>

<p>This article is the first in the domestic Religious Studies to consider Venezuelan syncretic cult of Maria Lionza. The author reveals different versions of the origin of the cultandits causes. Special attentionis given to the Catholic role of the image of the goddess Maria Lionzathat absorbed the popular conception of the Virgin Mary.</p>
